So we got an unfinished bird house and she picked out some cute little wood pieces to attach to it. Well, bad planning on my part, I forgot the spray paint to paint the house. So, in December when we were back at the craft store for the holidays we picked out some craft paint. Then again, bad mommy, I didn't realize that you can't attach the wood pieces with Elmer's school glue if you want to put the darn thing outside. So on to Amazon I went in January to find a decent craft glue gun. If you have a husband like mine, then it is all about the "right" tool! So i oped with a Stanley - how could I go wrong :)
Once we had all of our supplies including 3 different colors of spray paint, I pondered, "how the heck to you spray it in a pattern, per Hailey request, without spraying the entire thing? Hmmm, plastic grocery bags and blue paint tape!
So, we started the tape, bag, paint, tape, bag, paint process. I must say, it came out pretty cute! Hailey also made a great spray paint can shaker. We set up the garage so we had ventilation from the fumes and sprayed away!
After a week of spray painting the house, we were able to glue on the wood pieces. I had no idea that it would take literally a full week of painting one dinky little wood house! Hailey choose where each and every piece went, and she did a mighty fine job of letting Mommy glue. No fights, which I was very surprised at.
I think our little birdies are going to like their new home quite well, don't ya think? And I would say that I picked up some mad craft skill during this activity. Never spray painted, never glue gunned and surely never made anything this cute with the best little helper ever! I also learned how to let go of having full control and let a little mind make the decisions. I just did as she said and let her create her masterpiece. I did however "suggest" where to put the butterfly :) Come on, I need a bit credit for this too you know :)
