This year with so many activities, parties and family in town, we opted for a bit smaller tree and went flocked instead of green. This way when I forget to water it for a week, it won't dry out and loose all the needles and we won't have to pick them out of the carpet since it is also in a different spot then in the front window on the hard wood.
Hailey has a great time with our annual tradition and every year I get a picture of her running through the trees and with the one that we pick out. She found this one and when she said that she liked it, my Dad even said that he thought of us when he was flocking it. So, it was the PERFECT tree!
Hailey has also always been enchanted by the nativity set, this year Grandpa explained the meaning of Christmas and it was a very special moment as another of our annual traditions is that we go to church with Grampa, Grandma Lori and Auntie Kara on Christmas Eve and Hailey was going to be sitting with us for the service. (she did really great by the way, as I write this blog super late and after the fact) Grampa gave her a very special kids nativity set and we will be on the lookout for a backlit manger to house them in.
Each year we give Hailey an ornament and she gets to put the first ornament on the tree. I thought that I was getting her a special ornament, the letter H but when we started putting the rest of the ornaments on I guess I had the same idea last year as she got a letter H too! oh well, this was a nice shinny one as last years was a fake cookie.
It usually take us a few days to decorate the tree, hence the multiple outfits, this year it took us a week and a half to complete it. The complete picture is a bit dark but you can kinda make her out standing next to the fully decorated and lit tree with her favorite holiday toy, a stuffed singing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. We also hand made a garland from construction paper that went all the way around the tree 4 times which finished it off just right!
