This morning at about 830 AM I was browsing through the Macaroni Kid and the Ruby Slipper Guide looking for something fun and laid back to do and came across the Reindeer Festival at the Cougar Mountain Zoo. I didn't have anything big planned for today but hitting the kid class at the gym and getting in a good AM workout along with having to take a work call at 2 pm so this was perfect! What made it even better was my friend Erika, her dad and two adorable daughters were looking for something to do too so we were able to meet up with them and share the fun experience.
We could not have asked for better weather as it was blue sky and sunny with a bit of a cool winter crispness which added to the holiday spirit.
The Reindeer Festival was a huge success as the kids were able to listen to a holiday story read by an elf, ride in Santa's sleigh, feed reindeer, sip hot cocoa (which is Hailey's new found holiday favorite), feed all 9 of Santa's Reindeer, sit on Santa's lap and get a picture, write a note to Santa, explore the zoo grounds with all the very interesting animals and play on the bronze statues.
One of my most favorite parts was that at each of the animals homes, there was a description as to how they help Santa on his journey around the world delivering presents and keeping him safe. The animals are also not ones that you would normally see at the zoo, so that was quite exciting to see more exoctic creatures that we had not seen before. My favorite were the East African Crowned Cranes, they have hair and they dance.
The entire excursion was magical and was the perfect first true holiday event of the year. I hope to make this part of our family tradition as the zoo is one Hailey's most favorite places to go.
