First Dentist Appointment

Hailey had her first dentist appointment on Monday and did AMAZING! She didn't cry, ask to get down, fuss, etc. She sat there like a big girl, asked questions, and responded to the Techs and Dr's questions with full sentence answers. I was so proud of her, I really didn't think anything less but you just never know.

We have been talking about how we were going to be going to the Dentist for a few months as I made the appointment 3 months ago. At my last appointment, my Dentist sent me home with a princess toothbrush for her which I think made many points :)

It is all about preparation, if your kids know beforehand what they are doing, they typically will respond really well. People always comment on how much I talk and explain things to Hailey, but I have to say, it really pays off because she always knows what to expect.

I have been going to this office for 9 years and will go there for as long as I can, it was very important for me to have Hailey's first visit at this office as they have taken such good care of me. I knew they would make Hailey feel very comfortable and I really didn't want all the "kid friendly" stuff around as a distraction. She felt right at home, laid down, they gave her some sunglasses and let her hold some of the tools. She got to use the suction and had a great time doing that.
They even got to polish her teeth! This is where my amazement really clicked on, I had no idea that we would make it this far, she choose, bubble gum as her polish flavor - Like mommy like daughter, they had to put in my records that I can't stand anything mint which is the normal "adult" flavor. I guess I will just never grow up as I choose bubble gum or creamsicle EVERYTIME! Hailey said that she originally wanted doughnut, the Dentist said he will see what he can do! :) You gotta love this place!

The other thing that I was not expecting was the fluoride, she was too young for the trays but they painted it on and she did just fine. She probably liked it the best as that was Mommy's favorite part, I liked the trays as kid, I can still to this day remember what it tasted like.

Did I mention that I look forward to going to the dentist? That is as long as I don't walk out needing a root canal or cavity filled. I know, I am CRAZY! I just love the feeling of super clean teeth.

She got a clean bill of health, all her teeth checked out just perfect and they said that Mommy is doing a great job. Thank goodness all those teeth brushing and flossing fights paid off. I can now say that it is just part of the routine each night as she has fun taking her turn at brushing and flossing and then mommy gets her turn. I had to threaten her that the Dentist was going to get mad at Mommy if she didn't let me have a turn and he would be able to tell. Not one issue after that conversation.
Then she got to pick a treasure from the treasure box - this must be a dentist thing because I remember this as a kid. She got a big bag of goodies which included a new princess toothbrush, princess floosers, and lots of stickers amoung the other standard takeaways.
