September 16th, 2011 - National Playdoh Day

Yep that's right - the fun colorful soft clay that we all grew up on has it's own day, September 16th.

National Play-Doh Day celebrates a great childhood play toy. Invented in the mid 1950s, Play-Doh has entertained millions of children, and allowed them to express their creativity, both at home and in the classroom. The invention was simple. A schoolteacher wanted a safe modeling clay for her pre-schoolers. She asked her brother-in-law, who worked at a chemical company, to come up with something unique. The result was simple – flour, water and food coloring. It’s fun and easy to celebrate National Play-Doh Day. Simply pull out the Play-Doh and … Play!

For Hailey's 3rd Birthday we celebrated by having a Playdoh Party and we have acquired quite the assortment of this stuff. Sets include, a monkey, burger maker, ice cream shop, Dora, picnic basket, numerous tools and accessories and the alphabet.

Hailey can play for hrs with this stuff and it is fun to watch her creativity take flight.

We have also since expanded into moon sand but found that it is best played with outside and it is VERY difficult to get off the floor and from under fingernails.
