We packed a lunch, grabbed a blanket and sunscreen and headed out 20 min west to see what we could find. When we got there, we found that we had to have the Discover Pass - dang it! I had been meaning to get one but forgot and it didn't dawn on me that we were going to a State Park. Lucky for us, the park host was driving around and spotted our car to give us a nice note. We were having our picnic just a few feet away and pursued him to open up his booth to write us up a year pass for $30 vs. paying $10 for the day.
After we had our picnic and got our pass, we ventured out to see what we could find. We played on the small playground which was not all that great as the toys were not heat resistant and since it was at least 80 that day, it was really hot.
We then headed down the path to find the beach. We didn't find sand, nor much beach, but we had a great time throwing (skipping) rocks and admiring the most beautiful view of the mountains on the oyster bed (beach). We then walked around the park and looked at the cabins and campsites and had some wonderful discussions about the animals that lived in the forest and how we hoped a bear did not join us on our hike.
All in all, it was a nice adventure and fun afternoon in a new place. I am not sure if we would go back but we now know what is at the Kitsap Memorial Park.
