After we gave the professional ballet studio a shot, we tried out the YMCA in Mill Creek. By combining the cost of ballet, swimming and gym memberships, etc. we actually broke even and have a much better opportunity for us to meet people within the community. (We already have made swimming buddies!) Greg and I also have a place where when we go work out and not feel guilty about leaving her out of the fun as they have 2 rooms set up for kids to get exercise and have some play time. We also just joined the world of indoor soccer through the Y and having a great time (blog coming soon).
When we started ballet at the Y I was a bit skeptical to be honest, I mean how great could it be? She was at a professional dance studio! Well, how wrong was I!!!! It was AMAZING! She learned actual ballet steps and what they were called, was with kids her age and older (up to 6) had a real ballerina for a teacher who taught many ballet fundamentals including how ballerinas behave. The other place seemed like they played patty cake and free danced for 45 minutes. I was quite impressed minus the fact that at the beginning there were 15 kids in the class but by the end it widdled down to about 8 per class. Currently we have taken a break from ballet and are focusing on soccer but come September we will definitely do it again. We may try the new tumbling class next session though as the opportunities and classes just keep getting better. Did I mention that they have a waterslide in the pool too!
I really did try to get a cute picture of the two buddies... but sure enough, mine was the jokester that day!
