Today was Hailey's 1st day in the pool without me! It was kinda a big day as we have been in the pool together for the past 2 years and we were not going to let the rain stop us.
We came upon these great swimming lessons at Northwest Aerials (same place as "mastics") where they start as young as 1 year old and use floats that belt around the kids waists. As they get more and more comfortable in the pool, the floats are slowly removed. I was just estactic for her to start, she is not a fan of being restricted and just wants to get in and swim. She is just not ready to float on her own yet and the life jacket is pretty confining.
Hailey started with 4 floats on today, some kids start with as many as 6. The instructor also said that she would like to see one of the floats removed at the next class on Wednesday as she did so WONDERFUL! She is my little fish, swimming all over the pool, the instructor is in for a challenge with her as it is going to be hard to keep her on the wall.
I had a little issue with flip recorder and deleted the last month worth of video, including Easter, and the first snippets of the class, but I did get a few of the end of her class during free time of her swimming all over the pool. That was after I realized I had deleted them all, Greg said he would have been able to locate them had I not recorded any more. Grrr, another instance of why electronics and I have a love-hate relationship.
There was one little girl that screamed the entire time, at one point Hailey looked at me and said "Mommy, I don't want to listen to her scream anymore" LOL, I had no words! The poor mom - she was just devastated, they even sent her away to try to get the little girl to calm down. DIDN'T HELP! It was actually kinda obnoxious to listen to it for 30 min and the instructor was pretty irritated but she wouldn't give in, they kept her in the entire time.
We found the goggles ("gobbles") at Costco a couple of weeks ago and she just loves them, she had them on around 5 and didn't take them off until the end of class at 6. Class was only 30 min! She was the only one with them on but I think they were a great way for the rain and the water to stay out of her eyes so she could focus on the swimming part. Isn't she just the cutest! They came in a 2 pack and one set is a snorkel mask that clips in the back, it has a bit of a suction but they will be fun on our trip to Hawaii in October! If she can learn how to float I am going to take her on a snorkel trip to swim with the turtles :)
Hi Mom! Look at me!
Bobbing up and down and giggling with the older girls.
Realizing that if she just relaxes, the floats carry her to the top
Floating with the instructor
Look Mom, no hands! Once she figured this out, she was swimming all over the pool.
