13 already?

I think I had a brief meeting today with Hailey at the age of 13.

When we went to her room after kissing Daddy night night, she climbed in the rocking chair all by herself with her stack of books and started reading them to herself. I asked her where I was going to sit and she pointed to the food rest. So that was where I sat while she read me stories. When that was all said and done, she jumped down with ba and pow and put her hands up. I figured that was my que to put her in bed, and that I did.

After a bit of a stuggle, I realized that she needed a book, she was then ok and she read to herself a bit more and taught her self a bit more language signs. Ice Cream, bib, and cereal were the words of choice tonight. When I leaned down to give her a good night kiss she literally pushed me away and turned her head, I was so shocked that I just laughed. Especially when my 20 month old came back 10 minutes later standing in her crib crying "mommy" and after 5 minutes of rocking together in the rocking chair she fell asleep in my arms.

She is sure testing my limits these days but it is nights like this that I realize that all too soon my baby really will be 13 and there will be no more rocking to sleep 10 minutes later. I cherish the nights when she wants to fall asleep in my arms and cuddle with us at 2 am, they really will be gone all too soon.
