Spontanious Trip to Mt Baker

Last weekend we headed up to Mt Baker for a spontaneous trip hosted by Daddy.

It was our first day trip in quite a while so Hailey and I were very excited! We started off by hitting up The Berry Barn in LaConner so Daddy could show his girls his fav pie spot, we can see why this has become quite a favorite.

From there we headed North on HWY 9 to the North side of the mountain to check out the side that we had never been too before. It is pretty remote and there isn't much out there but it was so nice to be in the woods for a change of pace.

We stopped by the ranger station to get our maps and magnet and we were off! I have to say, this was one of the prettiest drives that I have ever been on, the flowers were blooming, there were minimal people/cars, the sun and fog was out which had some beautiful effects on the scenery and we even got to play in the snow.

This was a Picture Lake - there is a great wood trail that leads almost all the way around
Hailey had a great time jumping in every puddle she could find, lucky for me we brought 3 pairs of shoes and a few extra pairs of pants as we wore them all!

Hailey made sure that we knew where to go by reading all the signs, here she was blabbing about "the mountain is over there" and that "we should go this way"

The two above scenery pictures were taken about 10 minutes apart of very similar areas about 100 yards away. This was how fast the weather changed while we were at the top by the snow. You can see flat rock in the back at the top, we are pretty high up compared to the next picture of us on a trail below with flat rock in the background again.
My friend let us borrow their hiking backpack for the summer and because our weather has been less then pleasant, this was the first time we were able to use it. When Hailey found out that we were going to go on a hike, she found the pack in our room, and carried it all the way down the hall and said "I am ready to go on a hike!" She had a great time and can't wait to use it again.
There was one pretty waterfall to go see but you couldn't get too close. Hailey was asleep by this point for a quick snooze before so we took turns going down the path to check it out. It was kinda creepy as at the top they had a list of all the people that tried to get better pictures of it and lost their lives.

On the way back we stopped at a brand new pizza place called Chair 9 that we saw on the way up and had a great time listening to the live music, meeting the owners, and eating the delicious pizza.

All in all it was the perfect day! Thank you Daddy for the great idea and driving us on the beautiful drive.
