We had a playdate on Friday evening (about 12 days ago). I changed her after her nap around 3:00 pm and we headed out to meet our friends in Kirkland. We went to the park, then back to their house for a bit of play time. We then grabbed a quick bite to eat and do some grocery shopping. By the time we got home, around 8:00 pm, Hailey was still dry so I asked her if she wanted to try and use the potty? She said yes, and ran to the bathroom. Success! I was very excited but didn't give it much thought as it sometimes happen and we were not really pushing the issue currently.
The next morning she woke up dry :) and asked to sit on the potty. Horray! I figured at that moment, change of plans, we are now staying home to givepotty training a shot. She went all day and only had a #2 accident for Daddy that night. What a big girl!
Sunday was a bit of a different day as we had been looking forward to heading to the fair. We gave it our best shot but didn't have as good as a day away from the house.
Monday she did great at Gamma's, she didn't have one accident, so Mommy went and got her some Minnie Mouse big girl panties for her to try out at home. This just made her day, she had to try on all three pairs to see how they looked.
By Wednesday, we had had very few accidents, if at all, and we were so happy for her. Most days she woke up dry and was very cooperative about wanting to try. She really did seem to know the difference between nowing when she had to go and when she didn't. She even did #2 in her potty all on her own. I was letting her run around the house naked to see if that would help. I was handing her a towel to help with chores and she gave me a funny look and ran off. About 30 seconds later she ran out and told me that she did it and sure enough, she did!
By the weekend she was starting to even tell us when she had to go too and we started to go out on errends and activities with just big girl underwear on. I was a bit nervous but she did GREAT! On Sunday, she pottied for the first time out and about at a restaurant. She had been nervous about this but when you have to go, you don't have many options.
We have created a potty bag that we keep in the car with her princess potty seat for public toilets, clorox anywhere spray, candies, and wet wipes. This has been a great way to get used to going out in public but with one of her own potties. We also have to take this potty to Gamma's each day but today she wanted her favorite potty to come, her froggy potty. I am now on a hunt for froggy potty #3. We have one at Grampa's house on the water, our house and soon to be Gamma's. When you find one that works, stick with it!
Tonight she pottied at Nordstroms while I held her without the use of the princess potty and she told everyone! She also told Gamma multiple times today when she had to go and she did.
Where did this little change come from you ask? I have many ideas...
- Playdate with Kendell, who is potty trained and she saw her use the big potty
- Baby sat by Grandma Lori who talked to her about it for 2 days
- The new potty books that we found at the library
- The froggy potty being moved to just the right spot in the bathroom
- It was just the right time
I personally think that it was just the combination of all of these things and that I have the best little girl in the whole world!
We still have a bit of a way to go, but I am super confident that it won't be long until she gets her Thomas Train :)
Wish us luck on our last major milestone of toddlerhood!
